The Weiss Gallery is proud to be exhibiting again at Frieze Masters this week (14- 18 October). After a triumphant return last year, we are delighted to be returning to Regents Park this autumn to participate in one of the world's most pioneering art fairs. Our newly designed stand for this year's edition will be focussed on quintessentially British portrait paintings, with a particularly strong representation of artists associated with the late Stuart court.
Over the past year we have been sourcing paintings with Frieze Masters in mind, including: a full-length masterpiece by Sir Godfrey Kneller, which has never been on the market; a long-lost portrait of Dr. Richard Busby, the famous headmaster of Westminster School; two hitherto unpublished portraits by John Michael Wright, arguably the most original portraitist from the Restoration period; and a new addition to the growing oeuvre of Edward Bower, which depicts a Parliamentarian colonel. This year's edition coincides with the gallery's 40th anniversary opening in London and we are proud to be representing the best of historic British portraiture with a passion and vigour unchanged since we first opened our doors in 1986.We are incredibly proud of the paintings we handle and honoured to share our passion with Frieze Masters' discerning collector base once again. Therefore, we are delighted to present you with our highlights that will be offered by us at Frieze Masters 2026.Please contact us for further information about any of these paintings.~ Mark Weiss, Charlie Mackay, and Flora Crichton-Stuart -

Before Vivienne Westwood there was Bonnie Prince Charlie
An iconic image of the tartan-clad Jacobite rebel
This representation of the Jacobite icon “Bonnie Prince Charlie” is known as ‘the Harlequin portrait’, on account of his distinctive tartan suit. At least twenty variants are recorded, mostly in Scottish noble collections, which attests to a high degree of popularity in the period immediately following the last Jacobite rebellion in 1745.
