"A Tender Moment"

Gallery Director Florence Evans discusses a very charming portrait of an unknown Dutch girl from 1643 by the Anglo-Dutch portraitist Cornelius Johnson. This would have been one of the artist's very first commissions on his arrival in Middelburg that year, after fleeing from the Civil War in England. This is one of our highlights from our London Art Week exhibition, "Tender Moments: Children in Old Master Portraits" (3 - 31 July).
