This rare portrait of a 17th century French traveler, is a small-scale autograph replica of a portrait by one of France’s greatest painters and which previously had been identified as another renowned orientalist Antoine Galland. However recent researches would indicate that it is more likely that the sitter represents de Thévenot, who supposedly was responsible for the introduction of coffee to France.
