From Merchants to Monarchs: Frans Pourbus the Younger

The Weiss Gallery will be participating in London Art Week, which takes place from 3-10 July 2015, and looks forward to welcoming collectors to our Jermyn Street premises. The gallery will be exhibiting a remarkable collection of seven portraits by Frans Pourbus the Younger - court portraitist of the Hapsburgs, Medicis, and Bourbons.

The Weiss Gallery is pleased to announce our most recent publication, "From Merchants to Monarchs." This catalogue celebrates the gallery's dedication to the most compelling and talented court portraitist of the early 1600s, Frans Pourbus the Younger. With expert insights from academics and our own prolific research, this publication is the first of its kind. 

The Weiss Gallery to bring Eight Paintings by Frans Pourbus the Younger to TEFAF 2015

The Weiss Gallery is proud to announce it will be exhibiting a remarkable collection of eight portraits by Frans Pourbus the Younger (1569 - 1622) at this year’s TEFAF Maastricht (13th to 22nd March). Outside the Medici collection in the Uffizi and Pitti Palace, this will be the largest group of works by Pourbus ever assembled, and is a tribute to Mark Weiss’s dedication to the artist.

The Weiss Gallery is delighted to return to Paris Tableau, 13-16 November 2014, one of twenty-six galleries exhibiting at the fair’s fourth edition. Among the highlights from The Weiss Gallery will be another two works, recently discovered, by Frans Pourbus the Younger, a pair of marriage portraits of Willem van Vyve and his wife Marie de Hulstre.  Painted on oak panels these works date from 1591, when the artist was but 22 years old, and just starting his career as a professional portrait painter.

The Weiss Gallery, leading dealer in Tudor, Stuart and North European Old Master portraiture, is delighted to announce the sale of a monumental masterpiece The Last Supper by the great Flemish artist Pieter Jansz. Pourbus. This sale was to a new buyer of Old Masters at the recent Frieze Masters.   The painting had an asking price of £650,000 ($1,000,000).

Frieze Masters 15 – 19 October 2014

The Weiss Gallery is delighted to be exhibiting  for the first time at Frieze Masters this year.  The sister fair to Frieze, London’s leading contemporary art fair, Frieze Masters showcases the world’s foremost galleries and last year included works by Rubens and Picasso.  Now in its third year, it will be held in Regent’s Park from 15 - 19 October.
